World Film Festival Bangkok - Best Annual Events Thailand

The annual World Film Festival of Bangkok usually runs for a week in October or November.

The 11th edition will run from November 15-24, 2013.

There's not much yet about which films will be featured, though one will be "Return to Burma". There will be a Q and A with director Midi Z.

You can get a taste of the range from last year's line-up. The movies came from Latin America, United States, Europe, Iran,  India, South Korea, Taiwan, Indonesia, among other countries. There is always on strong focus on the indie and art end of the spectrum.

The festival will be screened once again at Major's cineplex at the Esplanade shopping mall. That's in the north of the city but it directly on the subway line (directions below). The quality of the screens and sound are first rate--but then, that's true of all the cineplexes in Bangkok.

Individual festival tickets usually run 100 baht, cheap by the standard of a developed country; usually, if you buy ten at once, there's a discount. And usually there's no problem of waiting or getting a ticket if you walk in on a weekday or even a week night. You might want to skip the opening weekend, however. The waiting lines can be very long and popular movies may well sell out early--so there's the incentive to buy a bunch of tickets at once.

Directions to Esplanade Ratchada Major Cineplex

So how to find the cineplex that screens the films of the Bangkok World Film Festival? The locale of the Major Cineplex in Ratchada at the Esplanade mall isn't as central as Siam Square or Sukhumvit Road, it is very handy to a subway (MRT) station.

Take Exit 3 from the Thailand Cultural Centre subway station. When you reach the street level, turn left and you'll see the Esplanade shopping mall. The cineplex is on the 4th floor but you want to go to the box office on the second floor. There are few signs of a cineplex on the ground floor and mall workers are of little help. Fortunately, this is a small mall and the ticket office isn't hard to find.
